December 10, 2007
- Grants for Best Practices and Odyssey of the Mind given to the Voorheesville Elementary School
   The Foundation recently awarded two grants amounting to a total of $10,800 to the Voorheesville Elementary School.  The first grant of $10,000 will be used to create a list of best practices in teaching methods and assessment of those methods for the purpose of helping students to improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, and to take a more active role in learning.

The second grant of $800 will be used to help pay the registration fees for district students who have signed up for Odyssey of the Mind, an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college.

October 15, 2007
- Grants for Technology given to the Voorheesville Central School District
   At a Board or Education meeting of the Voorheesville Central School District a grant from the Foundation was given for the purpose of purchasing technology equipment. This was done in conjunction with the Voorheesville Parent and Teacher Association. At that meeting Superintendent Linda Langevin received two checks amounting to $5,000 from each organization to be used for the purpose of acquiring new technology equipment including computer linked white boards and projectors. In action by the Board of Education, it gratefully accept the donations.

In other action the Board of Education accepted a donation from the Voorheesville Parent and Teacher Association in the amount of $4,000 for the purpose of purchasing math manipulatives and classroom libraries.
 


 


            About Us: The Foundation

The Voorheesville Community and School Foundation was established by local community members in 1999 to enhance the educational, cutural, athletic and organizational opportunities for the students and communities of the Voorheesville Central School District.

It is the desire of the VC&S Foundation to accomplish this mission by:

  • Fostering community optimism, support and enthusiasm for the Voorheesville District.

  • Providing additional resources to augment educational opportunities for all and promoting efficient utilization of all assets of the Voorheesville District.

  • Working as a resource gatherer and developer for the Voorheesville Central School District to provide additional knowledge, talent and capital resources that would enrich the community at large and the students of the school district.

  • Involving the community as a whole in the development, participation and learning process that can be found in the schools by using them to their fullest potential for all.


Foundation activities will be funded by soliciting gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, government agencies and other entities.
