Mark Your Calendar - Saturday October 18, 2008
for the 3.1 Mile (5K) Race and Community Walk
on Route 85A in Voorheesville
Since October
2001, the Voorheesville Community and School Foundation
Board has organized a 5K Fall Classic Road Race and
Walk. The Run/Walk takes place in October each year
and the proceeds raised go to benefit various organizations throughout
the school and local community. The first year, the funds raised
were donated to the Voorheesville High School to purchase much needed
track equipment. The funds raised in subsequent years have supported
many clubs and organizations in the school as well as the local
community.
The Fall Classic was held at Indian Ladder Farms
last year, however, the Race will return to the Voorheesville Elementary
School this year and feature a new course. Participants receive
a long sleeve tee shirt and medals are given for top finishers in
the event.
The Race attracts many participants from both
the Capital Region and the community of New Scotland and Voorheesville.
In addition to the participants, many volunteers in the community
supported the event, participating as registrars, course and traffic
marshals, water stop workers and spectators.
The race also features our annual “Kids
Race”. The Kids Race is free and this year, a WI game is being
raffled to the participating children. The Foundation hopes to promote
exercise and a healthy lifestyle in the community through the Kids
Race.
We have been fortunate to have many local businesses
and residents of the local community support the event as a sponsor.
Monetary donations are greatly appreciated and donations of items
suitable for our raffle held during the ceremonies following the
Race are also welcome.
Sponsors in past years have included: Capital District Physicians Health Plan, the law firm of Wein, Young,
Fenton & Kelsey, P.C., Stewart’s Shops, Atlas Copco, Advanced Auto Repair Service and Advanced Car Wash, Olsens Nursery and Greenhouses, Nichol’s
Market, Bryant Asset Management, Sponsor a Scholar, Geoffrey B. Edmunds, DDS, Capital Financial Services, Indian Ladder Farms, Norman Ellenbogen, DDS and
Steven Lysenko, DMD, and Anthem Health Services.
